On a recent weekend I was delighted to spot several White Throated sparrows foraging on the ground in the backyard. It was fun to watch how they kicked the leaves up with both their legs. Didn't know that sparrows do that.
The black and white streaks on the head with some yellow around the front of the eyes is such a contrast to the rest of their body that it's easy to distinguish them from other sparrows. This watercolor sketch was made from observing these little guys that weekend, one in particular came close to the patio and would tilt its head up into the sky.
