Magnolia Warbler |
While checking out what sort of birds have arrived in early spring I caught sight of a small yellow bird with black streaks on its belly hanging out in one of the apple trees. I didn't know what sort of bird it was but painted a small watercolor sketch of of it to the best of my recollection. Turned out I got the beak wrong because I later learned that it was a Magnolia warbler, and warblers have a slimmer bill. You think you know how something looks but then when you try to get down to the details you realize that you really don't. Nonetheless it was a great exercise in observation and memory.
